Privacy Policy

Location

If you choose to use “My Location,” the app reads your device’s location on the device only, to calculate the position of the sun where you are. Your precise location is never uploaded, stored on a server, or shared with anyone (see “Live Activities” below for the one approximate exception). You can use the app without granting location access by searching for any city instead.

What stays on your device

Your saved cities, settings, and your most recent location are stored locally on your device (and synced to your widgets through your device’s app group). This information never leaves your device.

Live Activities

If you turn on the optional Live Activity (a Plus feature) that keeps the sun’s position on your Lock Screen, the app registers with a small push service so the Lock Screen can refresh in the background. That registration sends only an approximate location — rounded to about a 70-mile (1°) grid, so your exact coordinates never leave your device — plus your time zone and a push token used solely to deliver the update. It is tied to no account or identity, is never used for tracking or advertising, and is removed when you turn the Live Activity off. If you don’t use the Live Activity, nothing is sent.

Purchases

Purchases and subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. Simply Sun never sees your payment details. Apple’s handling of that information is covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy.

Third parties

The app bundles an offline city index from GeoNames (CC BY 4.0). This data ships inside the app — no requests are made to GeoNames or any other server while you use it.

Children

Simply Sun is not directed at children, and collects no personal information for advertising or tracking from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date above.
